Daintree Power Options Study for Cairns Regional Council
– Aug 2009
The Missing Link Resource Coordinators, was contracted to look at alternative ways of providing power in the Daintree area north from the intersection of Forest Creek Road and Cape Tribulation Road. We reviewed the current situation, all the previous research that has been undertaken and identified possible alternative ‘’green solutions’’ for future implementation. Our report identified a range of options; a cost-benefit analysis and made recommendations about a change to the government policy which currently prevents power supply over the Daintree. A change to this policy will be essential to enable state provided power options to be delivered.   A copy of the report is available for download here (5MB)

The Green Corridor Project (2006 – 2008)

The Green Corridor Project is a partnership between the Barron River Catchment Management Association (BRICMA) and is supported by Cairns Port Authority, Terrain, Conservation Volunteers Australia, private landowners and many other partners.  The Missing Link Resource Coordinators project managed the establishment of the planting program and support systems for the first two years of its implementation.  In these 2yrs, the Green Corridor Project planted more than 60 000 trees across 5 sites comprising more than 40Ha of land adjoining the Barron River.
The project is a good option for companies that wish to offset their carbon emissions locally.  It is an option that can be an offset, identified by a small business eco-audit. Protection of corporate investment is through systematic delivery; with KPI's reported against quarterly to verify that the project is managed correctly. Contact the Project Manager for opportunities.

Codes of Practice: Development & Implementation

The Missing Link Resource Coordinators have project managed:

  • the development of the two highest profile Codes of Practice developed in the Wet Tropics World Heritage Area to reduce the impacts of maintenance activities by key infrastructure agencies – Department of Main Roads ‘Roads in the Wet Tropics Manual’ and the Queensland Electricity Supply Industry (QESI), and
  • has developed and implemented appropriate training modules for infrastructure agency staff and their contractors across the region for the past 12 years.

A Code of Practice aids compliance by reducing risk, and training staff through simple practical measures.

We offer the complete range of services through our:

Our greatest skill is to take complex science or legislation and put it in ‘real’ language for you:
  • what does it mean to me?  What am I obliged to do? How can I make sure I comply?
  • What do I need to tell the authorities or my clients to assure them we are doing the right thing?

And we help you put your story in ‘their’ language – engineer or regulators speak, so they understand your intentions or commitments.

We have years of practical experience working in industry, business and government departments so we know each set of requirements:  you still need to make a profit and satisfy your clients and staff, protect your community and the environment, whilst doing business legally, efficiently and using the simplest most effective ‘paperwork’ .

We can offer services to internationally recognised standards to help your business become more competitive in a market place requiring increasingly sustainable performance.

We are 21st Century Green – Part of the solution and not just part of the problem.

Kim Forde Recommentation

The Missing Link's Director Kim Forde has recieved a Recommendation from TAFE QLD - " Kim has provided advanced instruction to a NWP50107 Diploma in Water Operations (Hydrometric Monitoring) group across Australia using web conferencing virtual classrooms in the subject of managing compliance in environmental management systems.

She effectively contextualised this subject to the employer's needs, using their own policies and processes. She effectively interacted with the students and willingly shared her knowledge of sustainability and environmental compliance. I highly recommend Kim." - Tracie Regan
